In November 2017, Marjona, one of our software test analysts attended a training session run by WISE as part of their ‘People Like Me’ campaign. WISE is an advocate of gender parity within the UK’s maths, physics and computing industries, helping to attract and develop female talent within these subjects. With the aim of supporting young women into roles within STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), the session addressed the gender imbalance within businesses. Marjona wrote:
“The ‘People Like Me’ session taught us to encourage and introduce young girls to STEM careers. The resources they provided allowed us to explore the different personality types of girls and how to link those to different careers in STEM. Girls need to be able to see themselves in STEM careers and I believe these training sessions will do exactly that.”
“From the session, I learnt the importance of encouraging girls into STEM fields and providing role models. A potential future for this work would be for CEMAR to make links with local education establishments to provide similar sessions to engage with girls who are exploring their future careers.”
CEMAR is a member of WISE and strongly believes in supporting women into STEM industries. We work with local colleges to help young apprentices achieve their goals within technology and computing.
